F.A.Q.s

Q. ARE YOU A CULT OR RELIGION?
A.
NO. THE INFINITY SOCIETY is neither a cult nor a religion,
nor any other type of group with sinister, hidden, ulterior
motives.

Q. DO YOU HAVE A LEADER WHO ORDERS PEOPLE?
A.
NO. THE INFINITY SOCIETY has a Founder and
administrators who share common interests and make polite
suggestions and have the right to refuse any suggestion
made.

Q. DO YOU DO THINGS THAT ARE VIOLENT, UNETHICAL OR
ILLEGAL?
A.
NO. THE INFINITY SOCIETY is a non-violent organization,
with clear ethical
guidelines and principles, including a serious respect for the
law (
Magna Carta (UK), Constitutional (US), international and
The UN Charter On Human Rights.).

Q. Didn't the Big Bang Theory prove that the universe is
boundless but finite?
A.
NO. The Big Bang Theory is still just that; a theory.
Furthermore there are serious scientists, including some
Nobel Prize winning (or nominated) cosmologists and
physicists who, though currently in the minority, prefer the
Theory of Plasma Cosmology and/or Stable State Theory of
Perpetual Change in an Infinite and Boundless Universe of
sub-Universes. Besides, can you really imagine a totality of
everything that has a final barrier beyond which point not
even 'nothing' would exist?!? Just because we cannot yet
see (observe) something does not mean that it is not there or
that 'nothing' is there. Furthermore, there is no evidence of
such a non-thing as 'nothing', even the most perfect vacuum
possible (observed) is simply within a flask void of atomic
particles, but sub-atomic particles of energy, light and other
physical forces take up the space inside.

Q. I thought that it was a proven philosophical argument
that it is impossible to think about, contemplate and
understand the infinite (even if it does exist)?
A. Negative. That is incorrect! We, each and every one of us,
who are relatively mentally healthy enough, can think about,
contemplate and even understand the notion and idea of
the infinite and infinity just as well as we can any other
notion and idea. After all, what do you, or anyone else, really
know about anything...say an orange or a car or a
person...and I mean anything and everything??? All you can
ever know about anything and/or everything at any one
time is only a minute fraction of what can be known and
understood about anything and everything. All we know
about an orange or infinity is its essential nature or essence.
What is a puddle to us might just as well be for an ant an
infinite expanse of water, an ocean without end! All
knowledge is relative, but somehow we are able to 'sense'
the meaning of anything as it is relevant and relative to our
own existence and experience. For all intensive purposes you
know just as much about an orange or anything else as you
can ever know about anything, everything and infinity!!!

Q. I thought that it has been shown that thinking about the
infinite can lead to
temporary if not permanent mental damage, insanity or
madness?
A. That depends. Only if one thinks about infinity in a false,
finite way, and forgets that part of true infinity that is our
own spiritual existence and the Eternal Spirit and Great Soul
of
LOVE (not GOD in the traditional religious sense but a
combined, non-biological, non-physical,  super-being in a
scientifically sound spiritual sense), which is a spiritual realm
that we all share and are a part of. Thinking about infinity
without keeping some notion of love and communality in
mind can be dangerous and lead to mental illness, but so
can thinking (obsession) too much about anything. So do
not forget to take your time, go slowly, enjoy some natural
biological pleasures (eating, drinking, sleeping and what not)
and tread carefully when thinking about infinity. For, once
more, thinking about anything excessively...even about
chocolate elephants or taxes...can drive you insane! Even so,
thinking about infinity can be a bit scary or uncomfortable at
first, but it helps to do this with mutual others. Thinking
about infinity is not more likely to lead to mental illness than
excessive thinking about any other idea or thought. Yes,
almost all people who think about infinity become somewhat
neurotic, but they also become wiser and more intelligent,
considerate and socially successful (over time). Just don't
think about infinity without thinking about everything that is
within infinity, including
LOVE and the rest of us. YOU ARE
NOT ALONE...WE ARE NOT ALONE!

Q. Wouldn't the world become a very dangerous place if
everyone started
philosophizing about infinity and everything else? Who
would go to work and fix the plumbing? Wouldn't people
begin to realize that they have been abused and exploited by
some (not all) of those who are more powerful, those who
are wealthier than they are, and would that not lead to a
futile violent, destructive, murderous conflict in an attempt by
the masses to become powerful and wealthy?
A. Absolutely not. Wise people seek positive, progressive,
moderate, non-extremist, social and environmental change
through non-violent means. People who think a lot during
their free  time tend to concentrate (think and focus) better
and work more efficiently during their work time. Truly wise
people tend to value quality much more than those who are
not sufficiently wise. Wise people understand the principle of
what goes around comes around (that all is inter-connected
and everything affects everything else), and that the golden
rule of "do unto others as they would really want done or do
nothing unto others" is to be respected infinitely! NO, only
ignorant people think you can change or overthrow corrupt
and powerful people through threats of violence or through
violence itself. After all, not one violent revolution against
tyranny really succeeded in bringing about lasting peace
and prosperity for all. W
e have to bring about An Era of
Everlasting Wisdom based on non-violent, democratic
principles and mass infinity (BIG PICTURE) consciousness.

Q. Is this organization an attempt by its founder to become a
corrupt and powerful leader, politically, financially or
otherwise?
A. NO. Absolutely, positively NOT. The founder considers
himself to be a relatively wise person, albeit  someone who
readily admits that he is rather limited in intelligence,
education and knowledge, yet someone who would like to
live in a world of colorful, lively, loving, healthy, happy
people who respect the values of unity-
in-diversity, of
multiculturalism, of living for the common good. He knows
all too well that all that we really should want in this life is to
be able to love others, to be loved in kind and to share the
mystery and adventure, the simple pleasures and
sophisticated joys of a life based on mutuality and on the
understanding that by failing to elevate and support the
minds, the due rights and dreams of others,  that by living
off the unhappiness and suffering of others, we are only
making fools of ourselves and risking being remembered in
the long haul of history as despots, tyrants, fools, hypocrites
and bigots.

Q. How many members does The Infinity Society Universal &
International have?
A. Aside from our affiliate organization in India (The Infinity
Society India) we have over 800 active members worldwide
and thousands more who consider themselves to be
members, but are not active for now.

Q. Does this organization promote substance abuse?
A. Absolutely NOT! We consider the human brain to be a
very delicate bio-electro-chemical device that like all tools
must be kept healthy and abusing substances risks causing
serious permanent damage to one's brains. Also, while we
think decriminalization in general of the abuser-end of the
problem is the right option, we consider those who profit
from and kill for illegal substances to be dangerous terrorists
deserving serious legal punishment. Substance abuse is a
very complex social and legal problem, which requires a
variety of strategies that eliminate the overall threat and
harm but do not create a new criminal class out of persons
who actually need clinical psychiatric and other medical help
as well as a caring, loving community in which to grow out
of their abusive behavior.

Q. Does this organization promote careless, dangerous
sexual activities?
A. Of course not! While we think mature consenting adults
have the right to mutually consensual non-violent and
relatively low risk sexual lives, including any and all life-styles
that do not involve abuse of others, we are strongly opposed
to casual, relatively unsafe sexual activities. We do not
promote any specific sexual orientation, life-style or identity
over any other. What one does between friends is their own
business. Those who abuse minors and defenseless animals
are dangerous to the welfare of all society and should be put
on an isolated rehabilitation farm where the only sexual
contact is with other mature adult persons. Those who fail to
benefit from such a farm and repeat their offensive action
should be sentenced for very long sentences, and where
severe mutilation or murder are involved should be locked
away for life. Neither is it OK to dictate to mature responsible
adults what they do among themselves, nor is it acceptable
to harm minors, mentally retarded persons or defenseless
animals. We do promote relatively safe-sex practices and we
do think there are more intelligent ways to deal with issues
of sex, sexual identity and so forth. But promoting
responsible behavior directly is not a main focus of our
organization, only an indirect consequence of our
philosophical open-mindedness.
