WAR ON STEALTH TERRORISM

By Jean-Pierre Ady Fenyô

First of all; all terrorism is plain wrong, inexcusable and always backfires. The World Trade
Center and other terror attacks of September 11 were the worst yet experienced, not just by
the United States but by the whole world.

Given their relative sudden and shocking impact, they cannot be compared with other
atrocities that have happened in the course of human history. They stand in a category all their
own.

And though the number of innocents murdered is relatively small when compared with the
millions who were murdered by the Nazis and Fascists in the Second World War, by
Stalinism, or by Pol Pot, Idi Amin or other mentally ill megalomaniacs, the WTC attack, in
itself, has probably done more to harm the stability of the entire world than any other event in
human history and will probably contribute heavily to worsening famines, epidemics and thus
deaths worldwide, especially in the world’s weakest economies (mostly in Africa, Asia, South
America and Eastern Europe).

Whether these sick people realized that their actions would harm many more innocent people
than rich American capitalist sharks is questionable.

Nevertheless, their goal, and that of al Qaeda, cannot be allowed to be attained. What they
want is nothing less than the destruction of relatively democratic societies worldwide and the
creation of their convoluted version of..... "Heaven on Earth".

A "heaven" in which women are dehumanized, abused and murdered, children are
brainwashed into a life of perpetual and meaningless violence and individual identity and
rights are virtually non-existent (sounds like a form of Nazism to me).

That they also claim to champion the Palestinians’ right to self-determination is simply a minor
aspect of their agenda and is shameful opportunism at its worst.

Their terrorist acts have actually harmed the Palestinian cause more than any biased US
policy could ever have (this is also the opinion of many educated Palestinians, most of whom
have condemned these horrible atrocities as cowardly and insane). Clearly my goal is to help
fight terrorism and thus all the horror it represents.

Secondly; any attempt by prejudiced people and groups to make this conflict a much wider
and more dangerous conflict between the Christian world and Islam should also be
condemned.

For while it is true that, of the 1.2 billion Muslims in the world, a significant percentage
(perhaps as much as 40%), especially among the poor and uneducated, blindly praise bin
Laden and his murderous network, it must also be pointed out that the vast majority of the
more influential and educated Muslims share in the world’s outrage and determination to
neutralize the ability of these terrorists to do harm (even if it means killing them).

Furthermore, the Islamic world is far from being a homogeneous mass. Not only are there
significant differences between Sunnites and Shiites, but there are significant differences and
even violent rifts between different interpretations of Sunnite Islam itself (as well as within the
Shiite branch).

And these two main branches are just the two largest of Islamic doctrines amongst a great
number of smaller branches.

For there are the relatively peaceful Sufis and Druze, not to mention the universalist Bahaii
and the semi-Islamic Sikhs (who though also partly followers of Hinduism are also partly
followers of Islam).

And while indeed Islam is generally perceived as less peace-oriented than original root
Judaism and more male-chauvinist than most of Christianity, there is no historical evidence to
suggest that Islam is any more violence-ridden than Christianity or Judaism.
True enough, Islam and poverty do not mix well and both Indonesia and Egypt suffer greatly
from the spread of extremist religious doctrines.

All in all, those who are crazy enough to seriously contemplate waging war on all of the Islamic
world are really no better and no less irresponsible than the terrorists of al Qaeda.

Clearly my goal also includes helping defend innocent people caught in the crossfire of ideas.

Having made all that as clear as possible let there be no doubt about the following: Whatever
happens, the world must neither appease terrorism nor appease what I call stealth terrorism.

By stealth terrorism I mean actions or neglect on the part of the developed nations of the world
towards the under-developed nations and peoples of the world that cause or allow for such
levels of poverty, war, crime and corruption.

As Gandhi, one of my role models, would probably have put it; there is the obvious violence of
actual war and then there is the silent form of violence we know as poverty and the horrors that
poor people barely live through, and often die of, each and every day of their abused or
neglected lives.

For I am certain that even if, by some miracle of international politics, the Palestinians get
their small but viable state next to Israel (which I am absolutely certain would have to include
the Islamic quarter of Old Jerusalem and the repatriation of most of the Jewish settlers), the
kind of mentally ill fanatics who make up al Qaeda and other similar terrorist groups
worldwide will not stop threatening and sometimes harming the rest of humanity.

Unless we wipe out classical poverty and diminish the amount of crime and corruption that
make the lives of the working classes miserable, we will always have to contend with
terrorism.

Unfortunately, the world does not have much time left. We may already have come to the point
where the instability created is too great to prevent eventual total social meltdown and thus
extremely violent and destructive chaos and anarchy.

No, the enemy is not any one religion, race, or totalitarian political ideology. The enemy is to
be found within all religions, forms of racism and totalitarian political ideologies.

Religion was meant to be good and was meant to protect life and teach about love, about the
God of Love and the Love of God. But religion has gone astray, or has been hijacked by
unscrupulous clergy.

Racism is genetically unhealthy and only makes its adherents idiots.

Political totalitarianism is illogical and self-destructive.

The answer lies in the creation of a fresh, new world philosophy, one that truly abides by the
principles of democracy, freedom and respect for human rights.

And that is where my philosophical method of mass infinity (read: Big Picture) awareness
comes into play.

I have an answer (the only answer as I see it). A method for the dramatic diminishment of
ignorance, ie narrow-minded, short-term oriented shallow thinking, and thus the elevation of
wisdom, ie open-minded, long-term oriented deep thinking.

So far, too few are willing to consider it and none have yet implemented it on a sufficiently
meaningful basis.

I used to wonder why, but as the years have passed I have come to realize that the very
people most able to provide the means to promote my ideas are themselves among the most
ever-more skeptical types and are unable to appreciate something that is both so simple and
yet so obvious; the world has not been educated to think wisely, for wisdom threatens the
interests of those who sell junk rather than quality and false hope instead of fair opportunity.

If the world wants a real and meaningful solution to ending terrorism, in all its despicable
forms, then it should apply my method as soon as possible.

Otherwise, I fear the end of civilization is near and a New Dark Age (as my late friend Isaac
Asimov used to say) may take hold.
